About the Software
What is ISTA+ and what does it do?
ISTA+ is BMW's official dealer diagnostic software. It reads and clears fault codes across all ECUs, provides guided troubleshooting, live data monitoring, service resets, and module programming for E, F, G, and I Series vehicles.
What is the difference between ISTA+ and ISTA-P?
ISTA+ handles diagnostics and programming for modern F and G Series vehicles. ISTA-P is the dedicated programming tool for older E Series vehicles. If you work across both generations, the ISTA+ & ISTA-P Bundle covers everything.
What is E-SYS used for?
E-SYS is the coding tool for BMW F Series vehicles. It allows you to read and write individual ECU parameters to enable hidden features, code retrofits, and update the vehicle order. It requires an ENET cable and PSdZData files.
What is INPA?
INPA is a legacy BMW diagnostic tool for E Series vehicles. It provides script-based access to individual ECUs for live data monitoring and fault diagnosis. It is included in the Mega Legacy Diag Pack.
What are SP-DATEN files?
SP-DATEN are BMW's ECU data files used by INPA, NCS Expert, WINKFP, and ISTA-P for E Series vehicles. They contain fault code tables, coding definitions, and flash firmware data. They need to be updated periodically as new ECU variants are released.
Compatibility
Which BMW models are supported?
All products support BMW E, F, G, and I Series vehicles depending on the tool. ISTA+ covers all series from 1996 to present. ISTA-P and the legacy tools cover E Series only. E-SYS covers F Series only. Check individual product pages for full compatibility details.
Does the software work on Windows 11?
Yes. All software is compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). Some legacy tools like INPA require compatibility mode settings which are covered in the installation guides included with your purchase.
What cable do I need?
F and G Series vehicles require an ENET cable. E Series vehicles require a K+DCAN cable. Bluetooth and WiFi OBD adapters are not compatible with any of the tools sold here. See the cable guide for full details.
